  • Finals - Day 2 (September 2018)
  • Dry and, at times, sunny conditions greeted the competitors for the second day of Club finals, though later in the day the ladies were forced to don waterproofs as squally rain came through.

First up was the Nuway Cup with John Albutt, in his third final, playing Quentin Smith. Quentin started well and at one stage was 7-2 up, but John rallied to bring the scores level at 11-11 after 13 ends. Quentin then found his form and posted a string of 1s and 2s to run out winner 21-12.

In the afternoon session John was in action yet again, facing Rod Payne in the Tarmac Cup handicap final. Rod started strongly and had soon clawed back the 6-shot handicap. After 7 ends the scores were level at 9-9, but Rod then pulled away to win 22-12, leaving John the unlucky runner-up in four finals.

In the Warburton Cup mens' singles final Chris Squires was facing current champion Quentin Smith. A lack of recent match play seemed to tell on Chris, who despite bowling well was overwhelmed 21-3 in just 11 ends.

The last game to finish was the Frank Richards Cup ladies' singles final which pitted Liz Caird against 5-times club champion Ruth Lowe. The match proved to be an epic struggle of excellent bowling over 28 ends with never more than 3 shots between the ladies. At 18-all Liz played a perfect opening toucher and added another during the course of the end. Holding two and with last bowl she held her nerve and drew a third to within a few inches to take the title 21-18 and add a new name to the trophy.
