    • On a bright but cool day 12 club members (4 ladies and 8 gentlemen) played the Valerie Smith Memorial Yardstick competition - traditionally the opening competition of the season.

    They played 12 ends, with a well earned break for tea, biscuits and cake half way through. Every bowl finishing close enough to the jack, as measured using the official "yardstick", earned its sender a point. The winning lady was Val Wright with 21 points, and the winning gent was Mike Hubbard with 24.
