Sunday 21 September saw the last two club one-day events decided as the ladies and gents took to the green for their Matthews Plate Drawn Pairs Competitions. Four pairs were expected to contest each plate, but late illness reduced the ladies competition to just three pairs.
In the ladies competition runners-up were the fancied pairing of Kath Matthews and Ruth Lowe but the winners, who dropped just one end in each of their two games, were Ros England and Chris Doody.
There were audible groans in the clubhouse as the men's draw again paired Paul Mitchell with Rod Payne - a repeat of the Bayliss Cup draw which Rod & Paul won. However they did not fare well as runners-up were Ted Matthews and Quentin Smith with two wins from their three games and winners, with an unbeaten record, were Bernard Williams and Gordon England. Ros and Gordon become the first couple to hold both plates at the same time. (Previous winners)
On completion of the bowling the members enjoyed a 'final fling' buffet to mark the end of the club season.
