News 2022
With the last of the semi-finals completed on time the line-up for club finals weekend is coming together. Interestingly only one of last year's champions has come through to defend their title - Chris Sherriff in the Nuway Cup (Open singles). The star player this year is Mike Caird who has a busy weekend playing in four finals, followed by Quentin Smith in three.
The Ladies' Singles (Frank Richards Cup) sees six-times champion Ruth Lowe taking on club newcomer (but experienced bowler) Deb Sherriff. Ruth first won this trophy as far back as 1996. In the Men's Singles (Roy Warburton Cup) Chris Sherriff plays Colin Meadows. Colin, the 2019 QRS Cup winner, is in good form and contests two finals this year. Chris is also in two finals, including this one, which is the only one he missed out on last year, losing in the semi-final.
The QRS Cup (Qualifying singles) pits Barry Geal against Alan Harvey while in the Cyril Davies Cup (veterans' singles) Colin Meadows takes on Mike Caird. In the Mike Caird Cup Mike himself plays regular pairs partner Quentin Smith and they then team up in the pairs final to play last year's runners-up Peter Hancock and Bill Greenway. Mike and Quentin are the most successful pairing in club history with six previous wins going back as far as 2003. Quentin is in action again in the Tarmac Cup (handicapped singles) and faces a tough game against Barry Geal who has the advantage of a four handicap start.
Spectators are very welcome on both days of finals weekend and we hope for good weather. Non-members are requested to sign the visitors' book on arrival.
